The European Commission, DG XVI, has published a "Guide to Innovative Actions for Regional Development". The publication covers the programmes financed by the Commission under Article 10 of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This supports innovative actions aimed primarily at exploring new approaches to economic and social developments which encourage the cooperation and the exchange of experience between participants in local and regional development. The guide seeks to enable potential beneficiaries of ERDF grants to explore the range of activities covered between 1995-1999. It also outlines practical application details for future pilot projects in this area. More specifically, the guide contains the following: - An introduction covering the nature of innovative actions (legal base, history, budget, areas of action); - A detailed presentation of the following three programmes for 1995-1999: . Interregional cooperation and regional economic innovation; . Actions linked to spatial planning; . Actions in the urban sphere; - Eight detailed presentations on the different types of pilot projects submitted to local and regional authorities (content, objectives, areas of action, etc).
