At its meeting of 20 June 1991, the SPRINT Management Committee approved in principle an experimental scheme to provide innovation diagnoses for SMEs. The scheme, which involves short-term consultancy assignments of 3-4 days, is designed to supply SME management with a rapid, overall analysis of the company's situation, needs and possibilities as regards innovation and technology management. Some 800 such consultancy actions will be undertaken. Consultants shall be selected by national organizations in each Member State, chosen via a call for proposals to be published in the second half of 1991. The new scheme will also provide the opportunity to gather valuable data on innovation implementation and the uptake of new technologies among SMEs.
