A Council Decision of 9 September 1991 (91/506/EEC) adopts a specific RTD programme in the field of industrial and materials technologies (BRITE/EURAM II) from 9 September 1991 to 31 December 1994. Scientific and technical objectives include: Materials and raw materials (seeking to improve the performance of materials at a cost which permits competitive industrial exploitation, over a broad range of applications, in the fields of raw materials, recycling, new and improved materials and their processing); design and manufacturing (improving the capacity of industry to design and manufacture products which are of high quality, easy to maintain, highly competitive and environmentally and socially acceptable); aeronautics research (strengthening the technology of the European aeronautical industry, and contributing to the knowledge-base which supports actions to minimize environmental impact and enhance safety and efficiency). The programme budget is set at ECU 663.3 million, plus a sum of ECU 6.7 million for the dissemination and exploitation of results.
