Commission approves ECU 24.6 million for German and Austrian cross-border cooperation
The European Commission is to provide ECU 24.6 million to support cross-border cooperation between Germany and Austria. The funds are being made available under the INTERREG initiative for development and cross-border cooperation between the two countries. The initiative is part of the Community's Structural Funds. The funding is designed to promote cooperation between Bavaria and neighbouring Länder in Austria (Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg) in fields such as the environment, transport and tourism. While the European Union will be financing the major part of this programme, Germany and Austria are to make investments of ECU 13.3 million each. Approximately ECU 5.1 million will come from private investors.
