Under the 1991-1994 MAST programme the Commission intends to support (as an accompanying measure to the R&D funding) advanced study courses for young post-doctoral scientists and/or graduate students from EC Member States. Applications (no form is necessary) by qualified institutions interested in organizing such courses in 1993 are invited. Applications should include: Title of the course, organizing institution, scientist responsible, list of suggested speakers, short description of course content with an explanation of the relevance of the topic to European/international science (up to one page); location of the course, maximum number of participants, dates, duration, and detailed budget (in ECU). The courses do not need to be connected to MAST-funded research projects. The following courses have received EC funding since 1989: Marine biogeochemistry; modelling of marine ecosystems; space oceanography; structure and dynamics of shelf benthos; shelf and coastal sediment dynamics; biogeochemical processes in estuaries. Courses planned for 1992 include: Physics, biology and chemistry of oceanic fronts; biological processes and physics of the euphotic layer.Commission of the European Communities DG XII/E, MAST programme SDME 3/78 75 rue Montoyer B-1040 Brussels Fax +32-2-2363024
