The Commission of the European Communities invites proposals from organizations concerned with intersectoral or Europe-wide electronic data interchange (EDI) projects aimed at putting into place mechanisms which will be able to address and to activate particularly three classes of EDI users: small and medium sized companies, companies in the service industry, and public administrations exchanging data with industry. It is likely that support, in the form of partial funding, will be concentrated on particular phases and steps of a project. In general a disproportionately high amount of effort is required in the initial phases of an EDI project, which include especially coordination and awareness activities. Thus, financial support might be limited with respect to a particular project but have an extensive impact on the global economy. Although the maximum period of funding will be only three years (reconfirmed annually), projects must demonstrate from the beginning a clear commitment for a longer-term operational life-cycle.Proposal content and format must be as detailed in the Official Journal.
