Impact and effectiveness of the Single Market
The European Commission has published a book entitled "The Single Market and Tomorrow's Europe" which examines the impact and effectiveness of the Single Market in the Community. The book, which is published in cooperation with publishers in the Member States, aims to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the achievements of the Single Market and the opportunities opened up by it. It draws on extensive research conducted, on behalf of the Commission, in some 38 individual studies and describes the dismantling of barriers in individual industries. As well as covering the achievements already made, the book also underlines the need for effective implementation and enforcement of the Single Market rules and the need to fill in the gaps in the regulations, particularly in sectors such as energy. Simplification of overcomplicated rules is also required, at both European and national level, to ensure that the Single Market functions properly.
