ECoNETT - European Community Network for Environmental Travel and Tourism
ECoNETT, the European Community Network for Environmental Travel and Tourism, is a new environmental communications network providing access to information on environmental travel and tourism. The project is an initiative of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), developed in collaboration with DG XXIII of the European Commission and IBM. ECoNETT is designed to raise awareness of the environment and to stimulate changes in the management practices of the travel and tourism industry in Europe. Information available through ECoNETT includes: - Good practice examples of what companies, industry bodies and destinations throughout Europe are doing to address environmental issues; - Techniques and technologies: tips for tackling problems and improving environmental performance; - Law and legislation: help in understanding environmental law and legislation throughout Europe; - Environmental management systems: general guidance on developing an environmental management system, including models and examples; - Approaches to environmental issues: information on water, waste and energy management, as well as on a variety of other topics; - Who's who: contact details for a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in environmental travel and tourism; - Sources: abstracts and summaries of publications products and services for environmental travel and tourism; - Information of Agenda 21 for the travel and tourism industry, a joint initiative of the WTTC, the Earth Council and the World Tourism Organization. The information provided by ECoNETT should be of interest to travel and tourism bodies, public sector bodies, academic institutions, the media and the travelling public.
