Incorporating e-commerce components
A basic technology for easy component composition in the future information society has provided a means for end-users and software engineers alike to merge together components flexibly and powerfully. This composition technology enables more reuse of components and higher productivity of end-users and software engineers. An e-commerce case study that uses this component approach has been designed. Employing component library e-shops can provide an efficient means of programming with more flexibility than standard software. Furthermore, the case study includes a wizard that provides a quick start while creating a shopping application. The components include a product catalogue, shopping cart, personalization administration of the product catalogue, web site menus and page layout. Although the e-commerce case study was not intended to be a product in itself, it provides an effective vehicle for testing composition technology. The library has been commercialised and its components can be used for the development of web applications for customers. It yet remains to be seen if the components are to be an independent product or if they will be included with another product.
