A new "European Coal and Steel Research" Home Page has been launched on the CORDIS World Wide Web server. This provides detailed information on the research activities being carried out under the European Coal and Steel Community Treaty. Article 55 of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) Treaty states that the Commission "shall promote technical and economic research relating to the production and increased use of coal and steel and to occupational safety in the coal and steel industries. Two separate research programmes have been established for coal (ECSC-Coal) and steel (ECSC-Steel) research. These are financed by levies raised on Community coal and steel products. Each of the two programmes receives a yearly budgetary allocation and launches a yearly call for proposals. Details of each programme, including a "What's New" section, calls for proposals and information packages, will be provided on the new "European Coal and Steel Research" Home Page.
