A Commission Decision of 17 December 1992 grants financial support of ECU 10,058,267 to a total of 18 projects for the promotion of energy technology for the new German Laender. The projects are in the fields of rational use of energy, renewable energy sources and hydrocarbons (THERMIE programme). The Decision, set out in Commission document No C(91) 3053 of 17.12.1991 follows a call for proposals published in Official Journal No C 166 of 26.6.1991. The 18 projects are to receive Community funding of 25-40% of eligible costs, depending on the specific case. Projects range from the modernization of a geothermal exploitation unit, run of river hydro schemes, and construction of a 2.9 megaWatt wind park, to the demonstration of technologies for water shut-off in gas wells, and use of an innovative clinker cooler to save thermal energy.
