The Commission issues a call for proposals relating to studies on waste management. Topics include: Life cycle analysis of packaging; the testing of perceptibility, readability and understanding of pictograms related to waste management of products at consumer level; waste management in the EFTA countries; waste management in Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia; codes of conduct for waste management on islands; composition of municipal waste; management and composition of leachates and run-offs from landfills; sewage sludge; contaminated sites; clean technologies (update of situation in Member States); waste transport inside and outside the Community with regard to the application of the principles of proximity and self-sufficiency in the areas of waste disposal; definition of waste; forecasting studies on waste management strategies after the year 2000; description of recovery operations; end-of-life electronic equipment management. It is expected that each of the tasks mentioned above will be treated independently and thus be subject to different proposals. It is left to the proposer either to follow the main lines as set out in the tender document, or to reorganize the different aspects or items in his proposal, or add new ones, provided that these changes contribute to the improvement of the study and are approved by the Commission. Proposal submission documents are available from: Commission of the European Communities Directorate-General for Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection, Waste Management Unit, DG XI.A.4 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2990392 (Mr. F. Marien), +32-2-2990302 (Ms. G. Bossenmeyer); Fax +32-2-2990307.
