Five year assessment reports on specific RTD programmes
The European Commission has published the five-year assessment reports on the specific RTD programmes, conducted in 1996 by independent panels of scientists. The reports assess the activities of the past five years of the current specific programme in each field, as well as the preceding programme, now completed. By conducting these five-year evaluations, the Commission aims to ensure continuity in evaluation and assessment of research activities. In particular, through conducting a major evaluation at this time, lessons from the specific programmes of the Fourth Framework Programme can be incorporated in the preparations for the Fifth Framework Programme. These reports complement the overall five-year evaluation of the Framework Programme, also conducted in 1996, known as the "Davignon Report" after the chairman of the evaluation panel.
