BACKGROUND,USINE Strategic Network is part of the European consortium, USINE (University Startup of International Entrepreneurs). The Network was launched in September 2000 by a company called Dimotech Ltd., which is a subsidiary of the Technion Research and Development Foundation (TRDF) Ltd. The TRDF Ltd. is itself a fully owned company of Israels Institute of Technology, the Technion. In total, USINE consists of eight partners, both from the academy and industry, supported by the European Union's FP5 Innovation Programme. With the aim of promoting high-technology spin-offs from research centres, USINE provides scientists with technology-based business ideas and the ability to test the market potential of their products prior to entering the marketplace. Naturally even the most innovative and commercially viable know-how will only take off if suitable collaborative and strategic partnerships can be formed and it is the USN's role within the consortium to provide a platform to facilitate this.
