Times are changing and these changes are determined by the technological and scientific development. Everyday a new technological change is launched and adequate means are necessary to understand those developments. That is exactly the reason for creating Basque Research. Basque Research wants to become the reference point of Research and Development of the Basque Country. The objective is to collect and make know the researches carried out in companies, technology centres and the university. Basque Research is the web site that has been derived from the Science and Technology plan 2001-2004 of the Basque Government. One of the objectives of that Strategic Plan is to contribute to the divulgation of science and technology, which at the same time is the aim of Basque Research. Basque Research wants to collect information of all agents that work in the research area of the Basque Country and to provide the way to expand it at international scope. That way, apart from knowing the activities of our country, some other countries will also have the possibility to get that information., ,We believe it is necessary to present the objective from two points of view. On the one side, our aim is to provide a public service to the Basque Country, more precisely to professionals; that way, the research carried out will be spread to the public and also promoted: providing the knowledge between different agents, expanding the ways for cooperation, etc. On the other side, our aim is to make know at international scope the Research and Development carried out in the Basque Country and to open new markets. Therefore, Basque Research will work in three languages: Basque, Spanish and English. Nevertheless, we have a firm intention to add a fourth language, French, because we want to provide a broader and better service. What can be found in Basque Research? Among the principal contents of Basque Research we should mention three of them: News, Agenda and Directory. - News: in this section the last news on Research and Development may be read. Those news will show the technical perspective of the research, as they are aimed at professionals. ,- Agenda: in this section activities, seminars, speeches, courses, presentations, etc. associated to the research area can be found. ,- Directory: this section is worth a special mention and maybe it is the most important. Here news of companies of the research area, research centres and university groups may be found. The main characteristic of this section is the searching system. It offers three types of search: according to the name, according to the location and activity, and finally, according to the research areas. Apart from those three sections, there are some more, such as alert service, a list of other interesting web sites, institutions, a list of reporters, help sections, etc. ,User types: Three types of users can be registered: visitors, journalists and reporters. - Reporters are who provide information to Basque Research. They are responsible for inserting news, contents of the agenda and the rest of information on the web. They may also embargo those contents, that is, news that cannot be published before a certain date. - Journalists can be media professionals or all those who want to know all the information about research. They are customers of the information that Basque Research provides. They cannot send any information, but they can see all the contents, including the embargo news. - Visitors can see news, agenda, directory, etc, but not the embargo news. Hence, these are the nosy parkers of the web site. ,Finally, we would like to mention that Basque Research does not pretend to be a mere information service. Our aim is to work in order to divulgate information in specialised magazines, web sites, etc of Europe. We are in touch with news agencies, research networks, etc. that are emerging in Europe, and we will promote the partnerships that can be derived from such relations.
