Exploring Industry-Academia Synergies in Research and Innovation
The University of Maltas European Unit and the Malta Council of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Malta Business Bureau, are organising a two-day FP6 event in Malta between 6-7 December 2002. The Conferences primary aim is to explore innovative ways of bridging the divide between University research and industrial research and innovation. The conference will feature a number of presentations on the opportunities opening up for industry-academia collaboration in the Sixth Framework Programme. Discussions will involve a diverse group of researchers, experts, policy-makers and business people representing organisations from the public and private sectors. A prime focus and deliverable of the event is to explore effective forms of collaboration under the Sixth Framework Programme, to promote synergy and enhance competitiveness. The event is responding to an interest on the part of the Compostela Group of Universities to explore industry-academia collaboration opportunities under FP6. The Compostela Group (a network of European universities and higher education institutions), which became active in 1994, has over the years established a number of contacts with other institutions involved in teaching and research activities. By strengthening existing channels of communication, promoting mobility, and organising events for the study and discussion of different questions related to Europe, one of the primary goals of the Compostela Group has been to establish a network that will enable co-operation between universities. This event will also be open to local researchers from the public and private sectors and the business community. Local participants will also include members of the Malta Council of Science and Technology (MCST), the University of Malta (UoM), and the Malta Business Bureau (MBB), comprising the Malta Chamber of Commerce (CoC) and the Federation of Industries (FOI). The confirmed dates for the conference are the 6th and 7th of December 2002. Fridays session will be held within the very attractive Exchange Buildings in Valletta, Maltas capital, whilst Saturdays session will convene at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Closing Reception will be held at the new offices of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, in a newly restored 18th century building overlooking Maltas Grand Harbour. Our two-day programme will also include a number of social events, including an organised tour of the University of Malta. Our foreign participants will be residing in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, a five star hotel offering splendid sea views and situated close to Valletta. Hotel accommodation will be organised by our office on completion of our Conference Registration Form. Please see our Conference Registration Form for details regarding our Conference Fee.
