Simulation and modelling of plastic materials

The application of polymeric materials goes from the most common fields to the most advanced technologies. Most of those applications are mainly controlled by the atomic and molecular mobility within the material.

The group of Juan Colmenero in Donostia International Physics Center, in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country, is doing an ambitious development project of simulation methods with a plastic material computer. The aim is to develop proceedings that allow connecting the macroscopic properties of technological interest to performance at atomic and molecular scale. One of the most important techniques to validate simulations obtained at atomic scale is the diffusion of neutrons. For that reason, this project is being done together with the team of professor Richter from the Forschungszentrum of Jülich, Germany, leader in the application of neutron techniques to the study of polymeric materials.
