IV Fortnight of Science and Technology
On the 24th of November of 1906 Rómulo Vasco da Gama de Carvalho was born, an outstanding Portuguese physician and brilliant professor, which dedicated part of his life to poetry using the pseudonym António Gedeão. This date was chosen to celebrate the National day of Science and Technology, which is integrated in the Portuguese week of Science and Technology, from the 23 to 30th of November. The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) clearly defined a programme to participate in this celebration, as it has done the past 3 years. All the Departments have added to this initiative and the number of contributions and ideas required the building of a fortnight programme from the 18 to the 30th of November. This programme is focused on the development of a strong link between the University and the private sector, with a strong participation of the Academy on this event. Apart from this, it is envisaged to reinforce the link to other Scientific and Technological institutions. The UTAD wants to promote a close relationship with high schools. Thus, a Mini-Forum of Life Science has been designed for the 25th in which students have been motivated to participate. A "Science TV" programme has also been included in which several scientific and technological movies will be showed and commented by experts. All these movies have been chosen to fit in the scientific areas covered by the UTAD. The Students Association of UTAD was also motivated to participate bringing several concerts and other cultural activities at the end of each thematic day.,For further information contact:,rpi@utad.pt Links:,http://www.utad.pt/eventos/quinzena_ciencia/index.html
