Sustainable energy management in municipal buildings and equipment
Energie-Cités will be holding its 8th Annual Conference on 3 and 4 April 2003 in Krakow on the topic of Sustainable energy management in municipal buildings and equipment. The European Commission (DG TREN) is supporting it and it is jointly organised with our Polish partners: Polish Network "Energie-Cités", City of Krakow and the Malopolska Voivodeship. Why Cracow? Because we would like to make our contribution to the enlargement of the European Union and address the cities of the European Union as well as those in Central and Eastern Europe (and not only Poland). It is for this reason that this conference is open to all European cities and their partners. At this time when a European directive on energy performance of buildings has been adopted, building management - particularly municipal buildings which should be an example for all - still seems to be a priority: to spend less, to consume more efficiently, to offer better comfort, to manage emissions. It is also Energie-Cités' role to act on site and to take over community initiatives. This conference should also constitute an important step to reinforce decentralised partnerships in Europe. For it is the easiest way to effectively transfer know-how between cities and to train energy management teams there where they do not yet exist, linking them to private partners, if possible, as this is the essential key to developing a large-scale policy on energy control.
