Innovation & Technology Transfer special edition: Commission Communication on innovation policy

The European Commission's recent Communication on Innovation policy seeks to launch a debate in which innovative performance is at the heart of Europe's strategy to develop economic competitiveness.

Europes enterprises are the foundation of our economic prosperity, so we need to create the conditions in which firms can prosper. Innovation is about creating value, about increasing productivity and therefore growing Europes economy. Improving our innovation performance should make a big contribution to this, so we have updated our approach to European innovation policy in this Communication.
The debate launched by this Communication is intended to broaden the discussion of innovation policy beyond research. Many policy fields are implicated, from competition to education. We want to see Member States strengthening the coordination of these different policy fields to favour innovation, and setting targets to improve their own performance. Only by working together will we understand what is needed to make the innovation process work more effectively in Europe, and learn how to build public support for the measures required.
