Creation of Innovation through Knowledge Management: Second Phase of Data Collection On-Line Survey
Bad Homburg, June 2nd, 2003: Creation of Innovation through Knowledge Management: Second Phase of Data Collection On-Line Survey The second phase of data gathering of the CIKM project, an on-line survey, has been launched. The study is focusing on 3 industry sectors: Telecommunications and IT, Financial Services, Mechanical Engineering, and 4 European countries: France, United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany. The overall objective of the CIKM project is to Assess the impact that Knowledge Management has on innovation performance of companies. Initial analyses of the very first questionnaires returned indicate interesting details. Survey respondents were asked to rate the innovation performance of their company: 31.7% claimed to be more innovative than their main competitors, 34.2% to be less innovative, and 34.1% to be equal. The survey aims at finding out which practices are used in the early phases of the innovation process, and how their relevance is rated. Best Practice data bases, for example, are never used by 43.9%, used occasionally by 24.4% of survey respondents for the detection of market demands and future trends. Knowledge Facilitators are employed never by 41.5%, occasionally by 36.6% of respondents for the task of idea generation. As to the survey sample so far, practices considered most important for the early innovation phases are idea workshops, cross functional teams, open door culture, free time for scanning. A complimentary copy of the detailed final report will be made available to all organisations who participate. ,Third Phase of Data Collection Industrial Case Studies The CIKM team has entered into the third phase of data collection, which is a series of industrial case studies. First interviews with companies from the Information and Communication Technologies sector, Financial Services and Mechanical Engineering are currently being conducted in the focused European countries.
