Materialica Fair: Easy online access to materials information, inventions and patent information

At booth B5.229, FIZ Karlsruhe presents highly sophisticated international scientific databases for R&D engineers / Direct online access from bibliographic references to full-text documents

Karlsruhe / Munich, Germany - Swift and timely access to specialist information helps avoid duplicate work and errors in investment, and it speeds up the innovation process. FIZ Karlsruhe provides a wealth of electronic and print information services in the area of materials science and engineering. At the MATERIALICA 2003 Fair to be held in Munich, Germany, from September 16 through September 18, 2003, FIZ Karlsruhe will present its comprehensive offering of online specialist databases and related patent and trademark files on stand no. 229, hall B5. A focus will also be on FIZ Karlsruhes search service in the fields of engineering, patents, and environment. Special attention will be given to patent and trademark files which are an indispensable source of information for all technical R&D activities, e.g. when searching for state-of-the-art information. PATDPAFULL and RDISCLOSURE are two brand-new specialist databases providing fast access to inventions and patent information which then can be strategically evaluated by means of efficient software tools. PATDPAFULL is a full-text patent database providing German language access to approx. one million German patent and utility documents filed by the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) since 1987. New documents will be available in the database within two to three days after publication. RDISCLOSURE contains defensive publications of technical inventions published as an alternative to the patent system. Thus the published inventions are placed in the public domain, but can no longer patented by a third party. Each database record contains title and bibliographic data of the individual publications. A large number of documents additionally include abstracts, classifications, catchwords, thesauri, indexing terms etc. Those who want to order the full text of the publication or the technical report can do this directly while online, via the STN Full-Text Solution and the associated full-text supply systems. If the required full-text is available electronically it can be retrieved at once. If it is available only in print, it can be directly ordered for delivery by fax or mail. FIZ Karlsruhe provides current-awareness alerts (SDIs - Selective Dissemination of Information) that monitor new database entries for specific information. Current-awareness alerts help you stay informed of the latest developments on a subject or query of interest in a timely, predefined, and automatic manner. For those not wanting to search the comprehensive information pool themselves, FIZ Karlsruhe offers a search service focusing on engineering, patents and environment. The databases are made accessible through the online service STN International (The Scientific and Technical Information Network), operated by FIZ Karlsruhe together with international partners (www.stn-international.de). STN offers approx. 220 databases with citations of 400 million scientific publications. This includes a vast offer of materials information.
