Pop star's "lab" one of the highlights of UK activities during World Space Week (4-10 October 2003)

Space technology and science have never been more relevant and next week thousands of events around the world will celebrate how they are helping society on Earth.

The range of discovery, innovation and application is astounding and proves graphically that space is more a place of opportunity than a final frontier.
World Space Week will generate unprecedented levels of global co-operation to demonstrate the array of benefits provided by individuals, groups, educational institutions and space agencies.
One of the highlights of UK activities during the week will be "Lance's Lab", an exciting global competition to engage students in the science and engineering of space flight.
Entrants have to imagine that pop star Lance Bass of *NSYNC, who is acting as the World Space Week 2003 Youth Spokesperson, is going to live on the International Space Station (ISS) for 3 months.
There is only one problem: he needs a place to live! The mission is to design a Space Station module where Lance can live, record music, do experiments for educational purposes, and communicate with people back on Earth. Student winners will get to meet Lance at an awards event scheduled for spring 2004.
