New Internet-Platform for European Re-search Partners

Ministerial Director Wolfgang Froehlich and the Commissioner for Europe Norbert Hoeptner support a simultaneous promotion of basic research, applied research and technol-ogy transfer.

"We must promote basic research, applied research and technology transfer to an equal extent. This is the only way to achieve innovations." These were the words of the Ministerial Director of the Ministry of Science, Research and Art, Wolfgang Froehlich, at a meeting held as part of the "Science and Economy" initiative held in the Baden-Wuerttemberg Representation House in Brussels on January 24. The objective of the joint "Science and Commerce" initiative sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs is to promote a dialogue between actors in research and economy. In this process, the Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum assumes a mediation role in the transfer of technology between universities, outer university research establishments, small and medium-sized enterprises and large-scale industry as part of a European transfer network - the network of the 71 Innovation Relay Centre - and also extending beyond the borders of Germany. At the meeting in Brussels, representatives of universities and industrial research establishments met with members of the DG Research and DG Enterprise of the European Commission and the European Parliament in order to discuss the current options in the future research policies of the EU. "The fact that Baden-Wuerttemberg's universities participate in the research projects promoted within Europe in a lead management capacity is shown by the project examples which can be downloaded on the new Internet platform http://www.wissenschaftwirtschaft-bw.de(opens in new window)" stressed Prof. Dr. Norbert Hoeptner, the Commissioner for Europe of Baden-Wuerttemberg's Minister of Eco-nomic Affairs. "Baden-Wuerttemberg universities show a selection of 50 research projects with a European association in a brief but meaningful manner." The aim is to motivate companies from the whole of Europe to visit this web-site at regular intervals. If necessary, direct contacts can be established with the individual scientists through the web-site. The major objective is to convert the innovations achieved in the project into products as quickly as possible. The integration and project presentation of the industrial research institute is also planned.
