EUROESTIBA - Operational Training in Commercial Ports

Port market has been recently changed and liberalised and this process has affected port workers, especially the dockers.

For this reason the Sociedad Estatal de Estiba y Desestiba del Puerto de Valencia-SEVASA (Valencian Port Dockers Company) has presented Euroestiba project, which is included in Leonardo da Vinci’s programme. The overall aim of Euroestiba is to create opportunities of training in the port sector. Euroestiba wants to develop a training model for European port services. This model unifies port workers profile. In this manner, the project improves the quality of continuing vocational training. Therefore, Euroestiba will create new training courses, adjusted to the changes in the port sector. Moreover, the project develops a training handbook for trainers. Thanks to this guide, this training could be easily transferred to another European ports. The project introduces some innovations: • The approach was local up to now, and now it will be European. • Training courses respond to the need for identifying an existing worker profile. • Pilot experience will structure and organise port positions because it will create new profiles in this sector. • Courses have new subjects and categories.
