ESA announces 1999 activities

The European Space Agency (ESA) has published a list of activities taking place in 1999. The events will take place both in Europe and elsewhere.
February starts with the launch of Ariane-4 (V116) at the Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. This event will take place on 3 February. On 17 February, a conference on "ARD back in Europe" will be held in Bordeaux, France.
The ESA astronaut Jean-Oierre Haigneré lifts off on the CNES Perseus mission to Mir where he will spend 99 days. The lift of will take place on 22 February
March will see the another launch of Ariane-4 (V117) from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, and, later on that month ESA/ESRIN, will host an IAF Space and Education Seminar in Frascati, Italy.
The launch of Ariane-5 (A504/V118) will take place in Kourou, French Guiana, in April. Between 27 and 29 April, the Oceanology International Congress will be held in Singapore.
On 1 May, all ESA establishments will have an open day called "Europe for Space". Later on that month, there will be another launch of Ariane-4 (V119) at Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The ISS assembly, "STS-96", will take place at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA, on 13 May.
June will see the "Paris Air Show '99" at Le Bourget. Two launches, one of Ariane-4 and one of Ariane-5, at Europe's Spaceport will take place during June, but the dates are still to be confirmed.
A philatelic exhibition involving ESA, called "Philex '99", will be held at Palais des Expositions, Paris, between 2 and 11 July. Around mid-July, the Service Module on a Proton launcher with ESA's Data Management System for Russia will be launched at Baikonur, Kazakhastan.
The last event in July will be the "Unispace III conference and exhibition" in Vienna.
An ISS assembly - "STS-101 Spacehab (logistics and resupply for ISS" - will take place at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA, in August. The exact date is still to be confirmed.
On 20-23 September, the 35th Congress of Polish Physicists will take place in Bialystok, Poland. The event is an ESA exhibition. Another ESA exhibition will be held in Albacete, Spain, on 22-24 September. The exhibition is called "Spanish national Congress - Remote Sensing".
STS-99, a Shuttle Radar Topography Mission with ESA astronaut Gerhard Thiele on board, will take place on 27 September at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA.
The 4th International Congress on Energy, Environment and Technological Innovation will be the last event in September. This congress is held in Rome, but the date is still to be confirmed.
A general public exhibition called "La Lune et l'espace (The Moon and space" will be held in Geneva, Switzerland. The exhibition will open in October and last until April 2000.
The 50th IAF congress will take place in Amsterdam on 4-8 October, and, in Genoa, Italy, the International Symposium, GNSS'99, will be held on 5-8 October. On 11-13 October the IADC conference on Space Debris will take place in Darmstadt, Germany, while the Telecom '99 exhibition will be held in Geneva Switzerland on 10-17 October
An ISS assembly, "STS-92 (Integrated Truss Structure, Kuband communications system and Shuttle docking port)", will take place at the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA. The date of the event is still to be confirmed.
The Artemis day (flight unit in test centre) will be held in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, in November, with the date still to be confirmed.
The last event in 1999 will be the ISS assembly - STS 97 (Solar arrays/radiators, S-band communications system) held at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA, during December. The date for this event is still to be confirmed.
