An international conference on "Investment in energy in the Baltic Sea region" is being organised to assist in developing a framework to secure adequate and reliable energy supplies to the Baltic Sea states. The conference will be held in Riga, Latvia, from 6 to 9 April 1999.

The aim of the conference is to present and discuss investment in the climate and energy sector of the Baltic Sea Region, with special emphasis on:

- Industry presentations on investment potential;
- Regulatory evolution and investment conditions;
- Investment interests to investors, banks and IFIs.

The event will include plenary and parallel sessions, an exhibition, and visits to power stations and storage centres. The conference materials will be published before the beginning of the conference.

The conference is being organised by the European Commission, the Republic of Latvia's Ministry of Economy, the Latvian Development Agency, Latvenergo, Latvijas Gaze and Ventspils Nafta.
