Best practices in research management
'Knowledge has become the universities' and research institutes' most precious resource. The ways in which we gather, organise, convert and communicate knowledge today will determine our society's capacity to perform and prosper in the future,' writes EARMA chairman, Sigurd Lettow.
To this end, the organisation is holding a conference on the subject, bringing acknowledged experts from all over Europe together to shed some light on the issues involved, from their professional experience of the need for knowledge management and how it works in practice.
The conference will also address the question of the assessment of university and research establishments.
'The growing public demand for higher levels of transparency and accountability in the award and use of public funds begs the question of the criteria to apply in the evaluation of the performance of such institutions. For R&D managers, however it is more particularly the quality of evaluation tools which determines the success, or failure, of self-assessment exercises,' claims EARMA.
The topics to be covered include:
- industry research cooperation;
- what start-up companies need;
- what industry expects from research;
- how to develop a cooperation strategy;
- parallel sessions and visits;
- knowledge management;
- EU-USA cooperation;
- evaluation instruments for research management;
- evaluation practices from different parts of Europe will be discussed.
