Africa-Europe Symposium on Research Infrastructures

The Africa-Europe symposium, organised by RI-VIS and UCT, will bring together staff from the European infrastructures and African research infrastructures and institutions who might be interested in collaborations. We also invite representatives from funding agencies as well as policy makers to join and discuss opportunities for working together. By bringing together the right people we hope to create collaborations and initiate networks in a sustainable way so that all stakeholders benefit

Research Infrastructures are organizations providing state-of-the-art resources, services and expertise to scientists. The RI-VIS project unites research infrastructures across scientific domains in order to work together more efficiently and effectively and increase their visibility in society at large.

Global challenges like pandemics or climate change demonstrate the dire need for international coordination of scientific research. Research Infrastructures provide such coordination by offering access to key facilities, resources and expertise to empower research driven by scientific excellence and beyond the individual research capacity of different countries, economic sectors, or institutions.

RI-VIS helps research infrastructures to form sustainable global partnerships and collaborations with researchers and organisations. We want to democratise research and increase the access to services and expertise for researchers.

Our Africa-Europe symposium will bring together staff from the European infrastructures and African research infrastructures and institutions who might be interested in collaborations. We also invite representatives from funding agencies as well as policy makers to join and discuss opportunities for working together. By bringing together the right people we hope to create collaborations and initiate networks in a sustainable way so that all stakeholders benefit.

Originally planned to take place in Cape Town in 2020, our symposium has been expanded and converted to an online format, using the Whova event platform, to embrace a broader audience, excellent speakers and panellists and more participants from across Africa, Europe and the rest of the world.
