'Supernovae illuminating the universe: from individuals to populations', Garching bei München, Germany

A conference on 'Supernovae illuminating the universe: from individuals to populations' will take place from 10 to 14 September 2012 in Garching bei München, Germany.

Understanding the physics of supernova explosions remains a challenge. This is despite the fact that the most likely sources of energy needed to drive such powerful stellar outbursts are already known. Over several decades, the problem of supernova physics was not so much a lack of models but their reliability. For most supernova models hydrodynamic instabilities play a key role and numerical experiments to explore certain ideas have to be three dimensional, defining challenges for the dynamical modeling and radiative transfer analysis.
