City Information Highways Workshop

An international workshop on "City information highways" will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, on 21-23 May 1996. It is organized by the European Information Technology Industry Round Table (made up of major European companies involved in information and communications technologies), and sponsored by the European Commission's Information Society Project Office (ISPO).

The workshop will include presentations from industrial and regulatory experts in the information and communications fields, as well as discussion and work groups on individual themes. The workshop programme will cover the following topics:

- Assessment of six European trials;
- Presentations of projects from the USA, Japan and Singapore;
- Review of European policy, and the Action Plan for the Information Society;
- User requirements for innovative applications and services;
- Public interests at local and regional level to involve the citizen in the Information Society;
- Investment model and public/private partnerships for effective deployment.
