An international workshop on "Lipases: Structure, function and applications" will take place in Umea, Sweden, from 19 to 21 September 1996. It is sponsored by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of biotechnology (BIOTECH).

The workshop will bring together scientists engaged in studies of lipase structure-function relationships
and in protein-lipid interactions in more general terms. It will also be the closing meeting of the BIOTECH project on lipase structure-function relationships in which a number of European laboratories have participated.

Topics to be covered will include:

- Structure of lipases and mechanism of action;
- Phospholipases;
- Lipase inhibitors;
- Physico-chemistry of lipids;
- Protein-lipid interactions;
- Mammalian lipases;
- New lipases;
- New methods for protein engineering of lipases;
- Industrial applications.
