Remote Sensing and GIS Applications to Forest Fire Management

4th Workshop of the EARSeL (European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories) Special Interest Group - 5-7 June 2003 - Gent, Belgium. Organised jointly by EARSeL and the GOFC-GOLD Fire Implementation Team

5 June 2003 - 7 June 2003
Belgium
EARSeL is organising jointly this Workshop with the GOFC/GOLD Fire Implementation Team. GOFC/GOLD (Global Observations of Forest and Land Cover Dynamics) is a project of the Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS) programme, which is sponsored by the Integrated Global Observing Strategy (IGOS). The main goal of GOFC/GOLD is to provide a forum for international information exchange, observation and data coordination, and a framework for establishing the necessary long-term monitoring systems for fire management, policy decision-making and global change research.
The Workshop will be based on three keynote lectures on pre-fire planning, detection of active fires and post-fire assessment, followed by in-depth discussions and interactive poster presentations. Assessments will be made of satellite programs oriented to forest fire research (Fuego, Bird...).
