The European Commission's Joint Research Centre is organizing the third annual users' seminar of the Space Applications Institute (SAI), to take place in Baveno, Italy, on 19 and 20 May 1998.

The seminar will provide a unique mixture of high level presentations concerning international space policy issues and new scientific developments. The seminar will highlight European involvement in earth observation and will disseminate information concerning new concepts and programmes. Speakers at the event will represent a broad spectrum of industrial, application, institutional, commercial and scientific concerns.

Examples of topics to be covered include:

- Earth observation in support of the Common Agricultural Policy;
- Earth observation as a source of information for regional development;
- Integrated management of coastal zones;
- Experience on board MIR'97;
- A US perspective on the use of data from VEGETATION;
- Earthwatch and the services of the European Commission.
