1st International Conference: Tales of the Disappearing Computer
The aim of Tales is to stimulate discussions and to provoke scientific debate on the foundations, achievements and future of the research related to the Disappearing Computer (DC) initiative. It is addressed towards not only the DC research community, but also towards any person active or interested in the research and development of interactive ubiquitous computing systems. Tales will provide participants with opportunities to discuss, debate, agree, disagree and, in general, have a great time!
DC is a EU-funded proactive initiative of the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) activity of the Information Society Technologies (IST) research program. The projects in the current DC initiative are scheduled to complete their work by the end of 2003; a follow-up call for DC II initiative has already been launched. This therefore a good time to reflect on the results of the initiative so far both formal project results and results from the many cross-project ateliers, disappearing days and troubadour initiatives that have taken place within the framework of the initiative. It is also a great opportunity to look into the future of the DC discipline and bring in touch the associated research community with existing or emerging communities, such as those represented by Convivio network, network, the Presence initiative etc. In addition, Tales will serve as a preparatory step towards the main DC conference to be organised towards the end of the year, in combination with therd Jamboree of the DC initiative.
