STN International Launches German Language Full-Text Patent Database

Patent Full-Text File jointly produced by FIZ Karlsruhe and German Patent and Trademark Office

4 April 2003 - 4 April 2003

Karlsruhe, Germany FIZ Karlsruhe, one of Europes leading providers of information services, and European partner of premier science and technology online service STN International, has launched PATDPAFULL, a full-text patent database providing German language access to German patent and utility documents in all technologies.
Jointly produced by FIZ Karlsruhe and the German Patent & Trademark Office (DPMA), PATDPAFULL includes German patent applications and granted patents, translations of European patent documents, and German utility models.
Database records comprise bibliographic data, International Patent Classification codes, abstract, claims, and the full text of the description of the patent.
PATDPAFULL will contain over 350,000 records on release. This will be supplemented by a rolling programme of backfile enhancement, and by the end of April 2003 the file will include the full text of German published patent applications since 1987; granted patents from 1990; translations of European patent documents from 1998; and German utility models from 1999. Front page images will also be added at a later date.
PATDPAFULL will be updated weekly, with updates available within two to three days after publication by the DPMA. Automatic current-awareness searches (SDIs) will also run weekly.
In order to pinpoint relevant information quickly and effectively in PATDPAFULL, STN users can utilise a range of powerful proprietary full-text retrieval tools. The SLART (Simultaneous Left and Right Truncation) feature, for example, allows wildcards and truncation to be used on both sides of a search term, enabling users to locate multiple variations of a word or phrase, and so achieve a greater degree of precision in their searches.
The launch of PATDPAFULL means that STN now offers a rounded portfolio of patent full-text search services. Other full-text databases already available include EUROPATFULL, PCTFULL and USPATFULL.
With its 29 patent databases containing approximately 35 million patent documents from 40 patent issuing authorities along with the related information available in its more than 220 specialised databases, STN International is one of the worlds largest providers of online patent information.
STN International can be accessed by dialling in to STNs online service using its powerful proprietary client software, STN Express with Discover! Alternatively, it can be accessed directly over the Internet using a standard web browser (http://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de(opens in new window) or secure server: https://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de ).
