Announcing the 2003 Health Canada Research Forum: From Science to Policy

Chief Scientist Dr. Kevin Keough is pleased to announce the 2003 Health Canada Research Forum: From Science to Policy to be held October 20 - 21, 2003 at the Marriott Hotel in Ottawa.

20 October 2003 - 21 October 2003
Canada
The Forum is open to all Health Canada researchers, scientists and policy makers. A mix of plenary presentations, workshops and posters will exemplify the important contribution of scientific research to the public policy process. Integral to this year's Forum is a proactive approach to enhancing dialogue between the research and policy communities within Health Canada.
The participation of EU Health Managers and Researchers would be welcomed. The involvement of Europeans would enrich the health policy discussions. In addition, the Forum would provide an opportunity for Europeans to become better acquainted with the scope and variety of Health Canada's research. Networking amongst the participants would also enable Canadians to gain insights into European health research.
The chair of the 2003 Health Canada Research Forum is Dr. Gary Glavin, deputy director of the National Microbiology Laboratory. An organizing committee chaired by Dr. Glavin has been established (see below) and will take the lead in planning all Forum activities. A scientific subcommittee (Dr. Renaud Vincent, chair) and a communications subcommittee (Mary Bridgeo, chair) will be formed in the near future. Manal Bahubeshi, Suzanne Desilets, Linda Lord and Francine Villeneuve of the Health Research Secretariat, Office of the Chief Scientist, are responsible for the coordination of Forum events.
The four themes selected for the Forum are:
* The health of vulnerable populations,* Mental health, neuroscience and addiction,* Emerging threats to public health,* Health risk assessment and regulation
A call for abstracts will be issued as early as April 1, 2003. Keep watching Broadcast News for updates!
