Media Invite: Knowledge, Innovation, Technology, Enterprise - Introducing the K.I.T.E. CLUB

Thursday 22nd May, Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London, ,Journalists are invited to attend the launch of the K.I.T.E. Club - a new initiative which will bring a single identity to all the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council's (PPARC) technology development and business partnership activities.

The Club will provide opportunities to network, identify new partnerships, share best practice and explore enterprise. Furthermore it will bring greater coherence and visibility for PPARC's technology and knowledge transfer programme and provide a focal point for the range of people involved which includes PPARC funded researchers, industry, government departments and other research sector organisations., ,The launch event will comprise short presentations to highlight the benefits to the community of the K.I.T.E. Club, provide deeper insight into what has been delivered through a range of PPARC Business and Partnership schemes, as well as updates on DTI's Review of Business Support and Innovation Funding in the Universities., ,See programme below for further details., ,The formation of the K.I.T.E. Club will demonstrate that PPARC is at the forefront of the drive to realise the substantial contribution which can be made from basic science to the UK economy through knowledge transfer., ,For further information, ,Journalists are welcome to attend either all or part of the event. It funds research, education and public understanding in four broad areas of science - particle physics, astronomy, cosmology and space science. , ,PPARC is government funded and provides research grants and studentships to scientists in British universities, gives researchers access to world-class facilities and funds the UK membership of international bodies such as the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, CERN, the European Space Agency and the European Southern Observatory. It also contributes money for the UK telescopes overseas on La Palma, Hawaii, Australia and in Chile, the UK Astronomy Technology Centre at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh and the MERLIN/VLBI National Facility.
