June 15-18: 400 World Experts on Mobile Communications Gather in Aveiro
Among the 400 participants there will be representatives from all the sectors (manufacturers, universities, operators, standardization bodies, etc) active in the development of the wireless society and covering all the roles (researchers, R&D managers, application / service developers, etc).
The opening ceremony, on June 16, will have the presence of the Portuguese Minister for Information Society Mr José Luís Arnaut, and the Head of IST Directorate D, Mr Frans de Bruine. The conference programme includes tutorials, the presentation of 175 high quality papers on various subjects, from 3rd generation technologies to the proposal of new technologies for the 4th one, as well as wireless LANs, and new services or applications, three panel sessions and an exhibition component where 14 IST projects will demonstrate some of their achievements.
The first panel on June 16 will focus on the theme Technology and Wireless Communications, and will have the participation of prominent researchers and R&D managers from the three main geo-economical regions (Europe, North America and Japan), who will present their views and discuss the issues. The second panel on June 17 will discuss the issues related to Applications and Services, and before the closure of the summit there will be a third panel where the R&D policies towards wireless in EU will be debated.
