Local sustainable development
Ecosites are demonstration sites dedicated to innovation and knowledge transfer to promote environmental protection and equitable sustainable development. The Ecosite concept is specifically mentioned in the EUs 6th Framework Programme for R&D funding 2002-2006.
This workshop will examine the different roles that EcoCentres play in local sustainable development, to analyse the contexts in which EcoCentres can be created and/or develop their activities, to assess relevant aspects of local development research and know-how and to define the potential of ecosites in implementing European policies for sustainable local development.
The workshop will take place at Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, Denmark http://www.Folkecenter.dk/en/(opens in new window) one of Europes oldest and leading Ecosites, and a leading actor in practical implementation of biomass, wind, wave and hydrogen energies. The workshop will be followed by a study visit covering wood-fired heat network, heat-and-power, methane and wind energy installations, including inauguration of Denmark's first hydrogen car.
This is the third of four ECOLINK workshops, funded by the EU (DG Research). The summary of the first workshop is now published at http://www.ecosites.net(opens in new window)
