First Meeting of the INSME Promoting Committee
INSME aims at stimulating SME's innovation processes and their competitiveness in the global and knowledge based economy by promoting and strengthening innovation services and technology transfer for SMEs through intermediary bodies and their networks.
This project is conceived as a mid-to long term process for developing multi-stakeholder partnerships for innovation between the private and public sectors, within countries and between developed and developing economies. The ultimate goal of the Network is to strengthening linkages, cooperation and partnerships in this field so as to maximise the mutual benefits among members of the Community, sustaining in particular North-South and South-South cooperation and flows of information and investments.
The ongoing work the INSME Secretariat aims at establishing INSME as a formal Community of political and technical stakeholders in 2004. INSME will thus take the form of a non-profit Association at international level, focussed on innovation and technology transfer services.
This Association will foster the launching of an open, multi-actors political dialogue in this area, with a view to encourage the sharing of knowledge, expertise and methodologies as well as promote new transregional and transnational activities, projects and financing programmes specifically targeted to intermediaries and/or their networks.
By taking advantage of the use of ICT, INSME will act as an information hub, a facilitator and a catalyser of existing, relevant intermediaries and their networks promoting the launch of new projects, developing synergies and economies of scale. The INSME portal (http://www.insme.info(opens in new window)) launched in July 2003 is conceived as a free, multi-stakeholder platform for Policy Makers, Intermediaries and SMEs. It is focused on innovation and technology transfer to SMEs for sharing knowledge and experiences, exchanging information, methodologies and good practices, finding partners and technologies, as well as launching joint pilot projects and strengthening transregional and transnational co-operation in this field.
The international meeting of the INSME Promoting Committee taking place in Milan, Italy, on July 7-8, 2003, will mark a milestone in the start up process for the set up of the INSME since the organisation of the Association and its services are under discussion. Furthermore, CORDIS Technology Marketplace will be presented at this meeting.
