The career of a researcher in the European Research Area

European Conference taking place in Badia Fiesolana - European University Institute, Florence, ITALY, July 16-18, 2003

16 July 2003 - 18 July 2003
Italy
The conference is one of the events included in the Programme of the Italian Presidency of the European Union, which runs from July to December 2003. It aims at nourishing the ongoing discussion at European and national level about the role and importance of researchers in the creation of the European Research Area and for the fulfilment of the Lisbon and Barcelona objective.
It will also contribute to future initiatives put forward under the Italian Presidency on issues related to the profession and careers of researchers in the European Research Area. Strengthening the human resources in research involves a combination of initiatives at different levels, which embrace issues such as creating favourable training and working conditions for researchers in Europe as well as attracting more young people into science careers and enhancing the social visibility of a researcher's profession.
The topics discussed at the Conference and their results will contribute to the work undertaken by the Italian Presidency of the EU for enhancing the recognition of careers in R&D and for strengthening career prospects for researchers.
