Information networks and data communications

A conference on information networks and data communications, INDC'98, will be held in Aveiro, Portugal, from 15 to 17 June 1998. This will be the seventh in a series of conferences organized jointly by the International Federation on Information Processing (IFIP) and the International Council for Computer Communications (ICCC).

The conference will focus on the technical, social, economic and political aspects that are shaping the present and future of global communications. This will include developments in base technology, examining new technology, testbeds, field trials and results of research.

The conference also aims to focus on policies in information technology in strategic terms, in order to stimulate government and industry into well-structured action. Two specific tutorials will address the issues of:

- Network security;
- Unifying messaging services.

Papers to be presented at the conference will cover the following topics:

- Multimedia systems and applications;
- Mobile systems and networks;
- Network testbeds and field trials;
- Global networking;
- Intelligent networks;
- Network management;
- Service engineering and testing;
- New network technologies;
- Privacy and security;
- Policy and regulation;
- Ethical and legal aspects;
- Social applications.
