Workshop on Neuroinformatics
The workshop aims to explore and promote interactions and exchanges between scientists from different fields, in particular computer and information sciences, physics, engineering, mathematics and neuroscience. Five main topics will be addressed:
- Databases in neuroscience, their structure and potential impact on the field;
- Neuroimages and brain imaging, focusing on the relevance of techniques developed in computer vision and pattern recognition;
- Artificial systems and neuroscience and the potential to improve understanding of biological systems;
- Analysis of electrical activity in the nervous system, discussing theoretical and mathematical tools for analysing spike patterns of single neurons and neural systems;
- Brain theories and modelling to evaluate the current status of the theoretical understanding of the nervous system.
The workshop will conclude with a discussion which will aim to highlight the most promising cross-relations between neuroscience and computer science. The discussion will also aim to establish the scope and goals of neuroinformatics.
