Technology transfer: Industry and academic links in action

A seminar entitled "Technology Transfer: Industry and Academic Links in Action" will be held in Oxford, United Kingdom, from 12 to 17 July 1998. This event has been timed to tie in with the fourth International Conference on Technology Transfer and Innovation in Small Firms (TTI'98), which will take place in London from 6 to 8 July 1998.

The seminar is organized by The British Council, in collaboration with representatives from the Teaching Company Directorate who manage the UK government's technology transfer scheme. The event has been designed around visits to companies, universities and research organizations so that participants can view a range of schemes designed to enhance industry-academic collaboration. This should ensure that participants gain a detailed understanding of the workings and effectiveness of the different arrangements.

The seminar will also cover the following topics:

- UK competitiveness priorities;
- Identifying academic knowledge and company needs;
- Technology transfer programmes in the UK;
- Overview of British industry and higher education;
- Promoting international technology links;
- Financing innovation;
- Human resource development;
- Preparing young people for innovation.
