Pellets are a clean, CO2-neutral and convenient fuel. With rapidly growing shares of the market, they are a key technology for increasing biomass utilisation. As a highly standardised and compressed fuel, pellets allow cost-efficient transportation and fully automatic operation of plants for heat and electricity production, from one-family homes to large-scale power plants. Pellets are also an excellent way of using local resources thus making a concrete contribution to environmental and climate change protection.
The European Pellets Conference will be held from 3-4 March 2004 in Wels/Austria and will provide in-depth information on pellets technology, innovation and market trends. It will also offer an exciting platform to discuss the generation of customer interest in pellets use.

World Sustainable Energy Days,This Pellets Conference offers a unique combination of events: it is held in parallel to the "Energiesparmesse", an exhibition and trade show dedicated to renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. More than 50 companies will present their pellets-related products and services. In addition, the annual World Sustainable Energy Days - which attracted more than 650 participants in 2003 - offer a number of other high-profile events including the European Green Electricity Forum and the conference "Tomorrow's Buildings".
The conference is organised by the O.Ö. Energiesparverband, the regional energy agency of Upper Austria, dedicated to sustainable energy market development. Upper Austria is ideally suited for holding such a conference. A number of Europe's leading boiler producers are located here, and the fast growing pellets market contributes to more than 30 % of biomass heating installations in newly built residential homes.
