Two Workshops: Managing EC Research Projects in FP6 & Negotiating FP6 Research Contracts

Workshop Dates: Wednesday 29 October & Friday 7 November 2003,Workshop Venue: Q.ton Forum, Cambridge Science Park, UK,Workshop Organisers: Singleimage Limited

29 October 2003 - 7 November 2003
United Kingdom
Singleimage Limited will be running two workshops aimed at those involved in EC research projects in FP6 in October and November at the Q.ton Forum, Cambridge Science Park, UK:
MANAGING EC RESEARCH PROJECTS IN FP6 - Wednesday 29 October 2003
This workshop explains how European Commission funded research projects really work - or fail! These projects can present significant management problems. They are multi-cultural, mixing organisations large and small, public and private, commercial and non-profit distributing. They are genuinely collaborative: each partner has its own objectives and priorities, which must be reconciled. The scope for misunderstanding, disagreement and delay is large. Too many projects fail to deliver their expected results.
The workshop is aimed at research managers from companies, universities and research institutes involved in EC research projects. It explains the potential problems and how they can be tackled through a combination of planning, monitoring, discussion and diplomacy. It includes an overview, from the perspective of the research manager, of the key elements of consortium agreements which are needed to manage these projects in Framework Six.
,NEGOTIATING FP6 RESEARCH CONTRACTS - Friday 7 November 2003
This workshop provides an overview of the contract negotiation process. It will help administrators and managers to progress swiftly and effectively from the Commissions Evaluation Summary Report and Framework for Negotiation to a signed contract, while providing a firm foundation for the efficient administration of the project.
Negotiation with the Commission is unlike a normal business negotiation. In reality, consortia must follow the Commissions procedures and comply with their demands, often in extremely short time frames. But agreements reached here will have a major influence on the subsequent management and administration of the project. Mistakes and, especially, omissions made during the contract negotiation can lead to confusion and disagreement during the project. The result can be time and cost overruns, and even failure to achieve the project objectives.
The workshop is aimed at all who intend to participate in EU-funded RTD projects. This includes the financial and legal officers as well as technical managers who need to understand the commitments made during the contract negotiation process.
