TeliaSonera donates over US$330,000 for education in Latvia
The President of LITTA - Dr Imants Freibergs will deliver a short talk on the importance of entrepreneurs in Latvia at the ceremony that will follow the press conference. The opera singer Antra Bigaca will provide a short performance together with Inna Davidova at the event and cocktails will be served after the ceremony.
TeliaSonera has substantial investments in the Baltic Sea region and this donation of 2,400,000 Swedish kronor (USD 330,000) to the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga forms part of their commitment to Latvia. The donation will enable the establishment of a Professorship in Entrepreneurship at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga in connection with the Barons programme. There will also be increased entrepreneurial educational activity in partnership with other educational institutions in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The TeliaSonera donation is expected to contribute greatly to the establishment of new businesses as is desperately needed in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
Anders Paalzow, the Rector of Stockholm School of Economics in Riga said: TeliaSoneras donation is of extreme importance for our school, and also it is a great event for the whole academic community in Latvia. The granted funds will enable Latvia to take serious steps towards obtaining a competitive advantage in entrepreneurial support and promotion. I believe this will be a major contribution in shaping and development of Latvian business activities, which is an essential requisite at this point in regional economic development.
Kenneth Karlberg, TeliaSonera: TeliaSonera views Latvia as an important county in the Baltic Sea region because of the substantial investments already committed to this region. These interests include support and promotion of business development as the benefits of such promotion are for all to enjoy and prosper from. We believe that each country has its own unique values that result in unique entrepreneurial activity that benefits the whole region. Students in particular are very important as they provide continuity between a countrys traditions and the future of that country. It is for this reason that we have incorporated the Krisjanis Barons Program in to this initiative. This program will include country towns and be a substantial contribution towards EU integration and business promotion.
