A half-day seminar entitled "Mind your languages" will be held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on 11 May 1998. The seminar is organized by the Scotland/Northern Ireland Node for the Multilingual Information Society (MLIS) programme, as the first in a series of awareness activities targeting SMEs.

The seminar is specifically aimed at representatives of exporting companies, particularly export departmental managers whose responsibilities include ensuring that their staff maximize their potential to secure business within Europe by improving their multilingual skills.

Participants will obtain details of the range of services provided by the MLIS network, including an insight into the establishment of a company language strategy, based on the recent survey on Languages for Business carried out by the UK Department of Trade and Industry. Information on the range of tools available both off-line and on-line to enhance the language learning and translation skills of employees in exporting companies will also be provided.
