SLIM, Social Learning for the Integrated Management and Sustainable Use of Water at a Catchment Scale is a multi-country study funded by the European Commission (DG RTD 5th Framework Programme, 1998-2002).
Its main theme is the investigation of the socio-economic aspects of the sustainable use of water. SLIM focuses on the application of social learning as ,- a conceptual framework, ,- an operational principle, ,- a policy instrument and ,- a process of systemic change.
In recent years, Social Learning has attracted interest as an alternative for running public business and market operations. It has also been promoted as an essential tool for the management of complex natural resource dilemmas, and a key process in adaptive management. SLIM includes interactive elements and explores the concept and relevance of practice. The introduction of the Water Framework Directive into national law, and the need for public participation in its implementation, adds relevance to the research. You will find the agenda and all SLIM related documents in the following web site: http://slim.open.ac.uk/page.cfm?pageid=seminarbrussels,To(opens in new window) register please contact Susan Tilley, E-mail: s.tilley@open.ac.uk by the 21st of May 2004<br>For further information, please visit: http://www.bridgingthegap.ie(opens in new window) or http://slim.open.ac.uk(opens in new window)
